What happens when a credit card is credited back?

I was wondering how getting credit back for something works. For example, I bought something to be delievered on my credit card from an online flower store, and the product was never delivered. The guy told me my credit card would be credited the amount of money i paid. How does this work? Will I get my money back some way?

They "debit" your credit card, thus reducing your balance (if you have one).

If you do not owe anything on the card, your money will sit at the credit card company until you buy something or after so many days they will cut you a check and mail it to you.

Reply:The Merchant will make a reverse transaction and refund the cost of the product, taxes and deliver charges. Call your Credit card carrier and inquiry if the refund transaction has been made. They can also give you a time frame of when to expect the credit based on the date the merchant placed the transaction.
Reply:They will just credit it back to your credit card. Just make sure they do it on time because if they don't you will be stuck with any late fees.
