What is the best way to do my own bouquets and also to ensure I have the flowers I need for my wedding?
I am doing my own bouquets and centerpieces for the wedding. I did some trial the other night using flowers bought from the grocery store, and they turned out great; however, my wedding is not until July 4th, and I would like to ensure I can get the inexpensive flowers I need ON THE DATE I need them. I would prefer not to buy from a professional florist when I can spend half the money buying them at the grocery store! Does anybody know any good online retailers that will send undecorated flowers to your home? Or does anybody have any OTHER tips that could be useful? Thank you.
What is the best way to do my own bouquets and also to ensure I have the flowers I need for my wedding?
We went the bulk flower route. It went GREAT!
I'm in Michigan and went through a company called Horrocks. They are a produce store. They even made it so the roses were "left out" and in full bloom. Your grocery store could probably work with a wholesaler and get them delivered. They did make the bouquets. On site delivery was $12 and we spent $700 out the door, this included everything......centerpieces, bouquets, coursages etc. You can email me privately for pix.
I would go locally rather than online. I've had some really bad experiences with some online retailers.
Reply:Why not go to Michael's and get silk flowers for everything you need. You can even do yours in silk and they are georgous. But, if you want, do yours in real. A florist can do a bridal boquet very resonable. Depending on the grocery store is not a good idea as you don't know what they will have in stock or their delivery status to depend on.
Reply:I am also getting married in July (28) and my flowers, center pieces and head table flowers are all completely done. We were trying to think of ways to save money and we deceided to go with silk flowers. We bought them at places like AC Moore %26amp; Walmart. And the best thing about it all is I get to keep them forever. If you choose your flowers wisely you'll never know they are fake. And you can do them now and put them away until the wedding. This worked for me because I have one less thing I needed to worry about. The only flowers I need now are for the gentleman, my mother grandmothers etc. . and I'm getting them for an awesome price at Price Chopper. Good Luck and CONGRADULATIONS on the wedding
Reply:There are wholesalers online who will sell you flowers at a bulk rate, you have to do the arranging yourself though. It is a fraction of the cost. Check out freshroses.com or growersbox.com. Good luck!!
Reply:any craft store like michaels usually has a pretty good selection. they also have books there that you can buy to get other ideas. way to go on making them yourself!
Reply:I just got married in April. I bought all of my flowers from a wholesale florist, and I did all the flowers myself too! I got a great deal for everything. If you have a membership to Costco they do flowers in bulk. You can also google "flowers in bulk" and you can order everything online and they can send it to you the day before the wedding and then you can put it all together yourself. You just need to make sure you have a refrigerator to put all of the flowers in because they can wilt and die if they are too hot... I am sure it will be hot July 4th! :o) Good luck with everything! It is extremely stressful and make sure you have LOTS AND LOTS of help to put all the stuff together... I was doing my girls bouquets at midnight the night before my wedding! Feel free to ask for more helpful tips! I have done every cost saving tip alive! ;o)
Reply:The obvious solution would be fake flowers. You'll save money...And time stressing about getting all those arrangements together by the wedding date.
Reply:I've seen freshroses.com get rave reviews.
I would always check with Better bussines bureau to make sure they don't have complaints against them and then check site like theknot.com where people rate their vendors and can tell your what the experience was like.

there are hundreds of places that will deliver you flowers.
You dont want to be doing this the morning of your wedding though. I would suggest ordering about 3 days ahead of time since most of the flowers need time to open a bit. Keep them in a cool dark place with lots of water and arrange them the day before your wedding. They will stay fresh.
Reply:some times silks look as nice as the real ones and you don't have to worry about then being over watered or not watered enough plus once the wedding is over you can keep your bouquet looking as beautiful as the wedding day and silks are tons cheaper.

What are the best websites for ordering plants and flowers?
I have searched for and found several online nursery websites that sell bulbs and perennials but I want to be sure my plants and flowers are healthy when they arrive at my home. Any recommendations or experiences (good or bad) would help me find a nursery that I can trust to deliver the best so I can plant them with confidence in my own garden! - - Anyone??? - -

This is the place I like.
They have a lot of variations that I have not found anywhere else.
They guarantee their products for life (the plants) and always run specials so can getsome excellent flowers (bulbs or growing) for pretty cheap.
good Luck!
Reply:I'm a big fan of the Burpee Seed Company - www. burpee.com.
Reply:It is best to use a nursery that is in your own Gardening Zone, that way you know the plants have adapted to your area, or a zone north of you, making the plants even hardier.
It also makes a difference if your looking for seeds, perrenials, trees etc. most nurseries specialize, ask your local gardening friends who they prefer, also visit your local farmers market or some of the plant exchanges in your area.

Reply:I get my seeds from www.reneesgarden.com.....they used to be a part of White Flower Farms which provide the healthiest and best plants from perennials, shrubs, etc. For roses and other things you can always trust Jackson and Perkins....(both White Flower and J%26amp;P are on line). I have never found anyone I trust with bulbs...I do better at a local big nursery. (If I am looking to use big volumes for naturalizing and not using hybrids, try Michigan Bulb Co.) Good luck

What's a good website for sending flowers?
I'd like to send flowers online, but I don't want to pay too much. Any recommendations?
What's a good website for sending flowers?

you can find some nice ones every so often, but be prepared to at least pay $30. There are also nice chocolates and stuff you can send :)
Reply:Well, you have two excellent ones already, http://www.ftd.com/ and http://www.1800flowers.com/
Reply:use 1800flowers, OR google the city where you want to send the flowers to and find a florist that has a website directly to order from Most larger cities will have florists that can do that.
Reply:I dont know where to send real flowers, but i know you can send virtual flowers on this site.
Reply:Someone hit the nail on the head above. Save yourself time (and money) by searching for a local florist in the area you want the flowers delivered and then call them directly. That way you avoid the fees associated with "wiring" flowers. Meaning you are cutting out the middleman and paying less in the end.
Some online florists charge a handling fee of 10.00 or more just to take your order. Then, they skim money from your order to make a bigger profit before sending your order on to a real florist.

Corpse flower. What species? and when will it bloom again?
i live in the philippines and about 2 years ago... someone gave us this weird white horn shape thing that looked likesome type of crop root that they found in forest... when we planted the thing in our backyard it grew into a red shaped cone structure.. it didn't look like it had much of a stem or anything...
when it bloomed as the title says... it smelled like a rotting rat... and it even gave out heat if you were close enough to touch it haha... this species was quite small compared to the bigger one's ive seen online...
it wilted away within a day or two... and went away completely..the next year it grew into a green tree like structure with like white spots all over it and it felt really bumpy.. and then just wilted away too after some time...
i jjst wanna know what species it could be...
the flower petals when it bloomed were a burgundy color but the cone structure was more yellow.. =] well hope someone can help distinguish it ..thanks =]
Corpse flower. What species? and when will it bloom again?
The scienntific name of this plant is Amorphophallus titanum, the titan arum, a member of Family Araceae. Of the sources I consulted, no one was willing to predict closer than "several years" between bloomings, but one of them bloomed a second time almost four years to the day after it bloomed the first time.

Where can i buy an artificial table arrangement for the home?
Ive just bought a coffee table and i want something really nice to go in the middle of it, im after a large/tall and full artificial flower arrangement to go in a large vase, where can i buy one online cheap?
Thanks.
Where can i buy an artificial table arrangement for the home?
I am way out of my league here but I saw my wife and daughter get a nice vase, select flowers from a craft store and make their own.
I think this is the best advice because you end up with exactly what you want arranged the way you want.
Reply:Try ebay, I got a really nice floral centrepiece on it last year. There are always plenty available in different styles, colours, sizes etc, so you should find one to suit.
Reply:Why would you want to?
Artificial flowers are very very naff.
Buy a pot plant, it will not only look nice but improve the air quality.

What plants might grow under a trampoline where little sun filters through?
We live in southern California near the coast. I was thinking maybe a pretty shade flower might work. Any ideas? Also I'd appreciate knowing where to go online to find out how to get rid of old dead grass. Thanks!
What plants might grow under a trampoline where little sun filters through?
Plumbago...beautiful ground cover type perennial AND it has BEAUTIFUL fall color!! Vinca minor or some Hostas too. Those all like shade. They won't grow tall either to interfere with the trampoline.
Rototill your lawn to get rid of the grass.
Good luck
Reply:hosta, tradescantia, bleeding heart
Reply:Hostas!!! they come in several different color variations and do flower July/Aug. They love shade or partial sun. Before you buy, ask around your neighbourhood as they are easy to split up. The best thing about Hostas is that they are a prenennial and will come back every year even bigger than before....
Reply:Impatiens or begonia, easily root in water.
Reply:It depends on how little sun it gets. If there is still a little sun, shadow plants may work. If it is to dark to read a newspaper it is even to dark for all plants. Maybe you can find a solution with shadow loving plants at the edge under the trampoline (where is more light) and a solid ground (think of little stones or any other decorative material used in gardens) in the middle.
Reply:impatiens, ferns..

Reply:Japanese Spurge would be a great choice .... loves shade and stays green through the whole year - even in cold and snow!

Looking for a inexpensive wholesale floral shop?
looking for flowers wholesale either in chicago, or online.
if anyone can help me that would be great.
i am planning on doing flowers myself for wedding.
Looking for a inexpensive wholesale floral shop?
With no offense to you or any other answers certainly a general search in the WWW using your browser and keywords would likely turn up a few places.
Chicago is no different than any other major city in that it has Hundreds/Thousands, of vendors of all manner of goods and services.
Your greater issue however, may be getting a wholesaler to actually sell to you.
Reply:Do NOT order from onlinewholesaleflowers.com. They sent me half of my order without notification and the flowers I did receive were brown/dead. Now they are offering me store credit for the flowers I didn't receive. Too bad my wedding is already over. I think there are some good companies out there to order from, but stear clear of Online Wholesale Flowers.

We want to sell graphics or something. Or make a layout site. Or any other thing we may choose. Possibly art and flower seeds. That isnt even the point though.
The point is, is that we dont know how to create a website using paypal or a domain (ex. godaddy.com) are there any websites with tutorials about this kind of stuff?

I think to open a Paypal account you need to be at least 18, so maybe you might want to use your dad's name to open an account. It is a payment processor where someone can send you money.
Secondly, if you want to make a website you need to know HTML, if you want to learn go to http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.as...
You need time to learn these things, so you won't be able to do it over night.
Here is a free HTML Program:
http://www.trellian.com/webpage/index.ht...
The best way right now if you want to do it fast, use Ebay, again, you need your dad to open an account for you. In Ebay, you can sell your items individually through auction listing, and you can also open up Ebay Store, where you can display all your items. I think Ebay Store will cost you about $15.00/month. If you don't have the money, you might want to sell your stuff through auction. Be careful here, because you want to price your stuffs, so you don't lost money, and also remember to charge shipping cost to your customer. Remember in Ebay there is an insertion fee and final value fee, not much, I just want to let you know about these things.
GoDaddy is a domain and hosting company. Basically you have to register a domain name, for example www.megan.com, which will cost you $10.00/year. Then if you decide to have a website, then you need a hosting account about $4.00/month for the basic account.
There is a new website called http://www.molie.com. It is a website for social networking like myspace.com or friendster.com. It also has a business section, where you can have a business website for $3.00/month, I think not very sure. You might want to check it out. There are three types of account personal, family and business. The personal and family is free.
There are web authoring program, like Dreamweaver or NetObject Fusion, where you don't really have to know HTML. All you have to do just type, create a layout, insert graphic, and create navigation link. You have to pay for these programs though, and you still have to learn how to use the program, even though you don't have to know programming.
You need any more help, just let me know.
Good Luck
The point is, is that we dont know how to create a website using paypal or a domain (ex. godaddy.com) are there any websites with tutorials about this kind of stuff?
I want to create an online buisness with my sister. We are 14 and 13.?
hmm i don't think you should try until you get a little older
having a business is hard work

Where can i buy either carnations or marigold flowers in bulk?
hi ppl, i need help! lol where can i find a safe online store or local store that would sell mainly carnation or marigold flowers in bulk or any other kind of flowers. Im talking like an order of over 800 flowers. plzzzzzzz help! lol have a grt day, thank you!
Where can i buy either carnations or marigold flowers in bulk?
Try connecting with a local "Wholesale florist" . . . small shops buy from them. They could order whatever you need.
An independent florist shop should be able to negotiate with you on that also. Since they would be doing minimal handling they would keep the markup low.
Reply:My favorite online store in Gurneys, because they refunded/replaced any plants that did not grow. With ordering that many, I would phone them and try to get a deal.
You possible could contact your local Walmart nursery manager and ask him for the source of his purchases. My son in law used to work for such a place in Irvin, California, and it is where Walmart got their plants. Also check your yellow pages, as ours has places for wholesale rates for plants.
Good luck
Reply:It would be best to talk with the manager of your local nursery or gardening center.

Anybody know where i can find real stargazer lilies in bulk online?
i'm going to be ordering flowers in bulk and having a family friend do my bouquets and arrangements (she's experienced.) i've looked at the sam's club website, they have other kinds of lilies but not stargazers. these are my favorite flowers, and i'd really like to have them for my wedding. are there any other bulk floral websites out there?
Anybody know where i can find real stargazer lilies in bulk online?
Lilium or stargazer lilies are also known as oriental lilies (not asiatic) and can be bought in bulk at costco online
Reply:http://www.flowerbud.com/flower-market/g...
Reply:Try theflowerexchange.com They've got lots of flowers you can order and good prices.
Are they seasonal? Sams club used to have stargazer lillies online.
Reply:I have heard good things about www.freshroses.com....last I checked they had more than just roses you could get and the prices aren't bad either.
Proflowers.com is pretty good but the prices are a little high
Flowerbud.com ditto
Talk to the florists in the area...perhaps they would be willing to sell the you lillies but at a discount since they wouldn't be doing the arrangements. Some of the nice ones might even tell you who their supplier is so you could order directly from them.

Where can i buy a flower vase for my VW new Beetle?
If not online your really kinda limited to the dealership or if you have a local volkswagen shop that may have them. If your worried about getting ripped off here is a very reputable place I have ordered from and they have a good selection of the bud vases.
http://www.aiwana.com/ - TVA Autoparts they have alot of cool stuff for New Beetles.
Reply:call 1-800-drive vw to order it

Here is a link to a place online where they are pretty cheap though. http://volkswagen.dealerfit.com/store/vo...

I'm looking for quality invitation printing either online or in Chicago?
I have created a wedding package for my wedding on my computer. I want to find a printing company that will print what I want and will handle a small job. The job contains a photo that has delicate flowers with subtle details, so attention to detail is very important.

Is it tacky to "plant" artificial flowers outside your house?
I've found a site online that sells high-quality, weather-proof, artificial flowers. They are expensive, but they last for a long time. I want to plant a few along the front of the house and in some window boxes from second floor windows. Is this tacky? I'm not a gardening girl, to me its just another chore.
Is it tacky to "plant" artificial flowers outside your house?
'I guess it's up to the individual, I personally wouldn't do it. To me it's like putting pink flamingos in the front yard with bleach bottle windmills.
If you don't like gardening and the "chore" of it, why not try some small size flowering shrubs. With very little or no maintenance.
What ever you decide

Reply:Fake plants are just that. Fake. Now add tacky, unsightly, and unscented. sign of a lazy gardener or one with black thumbs, reminds me of graveyards. Only real flora need apply at my house.
Reply:i think it's very tacky, just my personal opinion. i would rather leave something bare than have artificial flowers. try decorating outside with birdhouses, birdbaths, something that can just sit and look nice with little maintence...
Reply:Personally, I think artificial outside is tacky. Maybe these are realistic looking, who knows. I prefer the real thing, its kinda therapeutic to water and weed and play in the dirt. But that's just me. Happy Planting or sticking...
Reply:I personally would not do it. You said about putting them on the 2nd floor windows...you may not really be able to tell from the ground that they are artificial. do not "plant" them in the dirt on the ground level. That would just look silly, sort of something like my grandmother would do. but I can honestly say try it on the 2nd floor. Just make sure you change the flowers with the season. You obviously would not have tulips out there in October, change it to mums for fall and poinsettias for winter. I've seen that and it doesnt look half bad. Good luck.
Reply:I think it all just depends on how the artifical plants look. If you get something cheap then of course it will look tacky.
Reply:I think so. I've seen some people here that have done it, and it never looks right. I suppose it comes down to what you think of it. I'm not into gardening either. So I just buy plants that are already potted, or pot them myself, and stick them on the patio and porches. I water them and give them plant food, but other than that...if they die, I just go get more.
Reply:It all depends on the individual. I personally would not do that, but if you like it then go ahead. If you can find nice faux plants for your window box then go ahead. I might suggest that you consider the seasons though and not have brightly colored plants during winter. You could get different plants for each season and rotate them out. Like bright flowers for spring and summer, Mums and autumn colored plants for Autumn, and maybe some thing Christmasy like Poinsettias and Mistletoe for the winter months. If you make it an event then it would probably be cute and work out well for you.
Oh...what's that called? Selective ??? something or other...hmmm, I'll get back to you on that...Scotty Doll ;P... hehehe
Reply:It's funny, you drive past a cemetery, and your mind automatically says artificial flowers. When I take an artificial bouquet apart and stick the flowers in blank spaces in a bed of real ones either people don't notice at all or want to know the name of the flower. RScott

What’s the least expensive way to send flowers or gifts to the Philippines?
I am planning to spend at least $30 and I would prefer to send a bouquet of flowers or if you have any suggestions? What online site could save me some bucks and it should be reliable?
Thanks!
What’s the least expensive way to send flowers or gifts to the Philippines?
There are actually lots of sites online now for sending flowers and other gifts to the Philippines. Is your minimum budget $30? If so you'll surely find lots of gifts and floral arrangements to choose from. Here are some sites you might want to check out before you finally decide which one to use:
http://www.myflowerdepot.com/shop/
http://www.pinaygifts.com/Scripts/defaul...
http://www.philippineflowersandgifts.com...
I would have to say that among the three, the first site appears to be the cheapest. Their products look lovely and some of the gift items are quite cute. Hope you find the perfect gift!
Reply:Where in the PI are you sending to? The best way would be to find someone here that you can have go to the local flower shop and get the bouquet for you. Then deliver the flowers to whomever you want to deliver to.
I live here in Mabalacat, Pampanga, so if it is near to where you plan to send it to, contact me... I will be happy to do it for you since I am always out and about anyways.
(I know, kinda odd that someone is actually offering to help. Most people get surprised nowadays that total strangers are actually kind. I don't know, I am just like that. I am always willing to help in any way possible)
Reply:I think LBC.. try check there.
Thanks!

Does anyone know where to find "Spirit of the Flower" jasmine/mimosa body lotion?
They used to carry it at Target, but now I can't find it anywhere. I have tried looking for it online and also looking for the manufacturer but can't find anything useful.
If you are familiar with this body lotion and do not know where to find it, could you recommend something very similar and tell where to find it?

How do i identify flowers in vermont?
I have a picture of a flower I found in a bog and i can't find a match anywhere online. Is there anyone or any website that can look at pictures for you and identify them?
How do i identify flowers in vermont?
If it's a digital photograph upload it onto one of these sites:
http://tinypic.com or http://imageshack.us
then copy and paste a shortcut to that picture into a question either here or in the Garden and Landscape section and we'll do our best to tell you what it is.
If you can't post a picture online I suggest you find a book of wildflowers in your area and have a look through it.
Reply:This website is very good or I would not recommend it. You narrow down the wildflower by selecting among those description choices. There's about 1,800 flowers in their database. It is for the US.

Flower Girl Dress, Communion Dress or Princess dress for marriage on july?
How about staying simple and maybe a tiny version of your dress. Remember its a child so should look like her dress not a grownups. I would very much stay away from communion dresses.

Has anyone bought flower from growersbox.com, and is it safe?
I need to order flowers for my wedding and never purchased stuff online. and I need calla lillies. I have been to florist but they are too expensive, like 12 dollars for just one calla lillie, and I need about 50. and on this website growersbox.com they are for like 3 dollars each. but I am not familiar with online shopping and how safe their website is.
Has anyone bought flower from growersbox.com, and is it safe?
check out sams club. I posted a similar question about sams club and costco and got relatively good answers
Reply:Shopping online is safe. If you have never used their service before, I am not sure I would want to find out about their quality and reliability for my wedding. I use proflowers.com and have always been very happy with them.
Good luck.
Reply:costco has great deals, also proflowers.com (click on their wedding section)
Reply:My suggestion would be- do a dry run. Order some flowers to play around with and make your bouquet- to test it. Then you can judge by the quality of the flowers and the shipping if it's worth it. I did that with my florist- I ordered flowers for my aunt to test her first. After I saw that I like what she did, I hired her.
You'll never know until you actually order from them.
Good luck.
Reply:Do not buy from them. They are a rip off.
Reply:WHAT DO YOU PLAN ON DOING WITH THEM AFTER YOU RECIEVE THEM. ARE YOU FAMILAR WITH FLOWER PROCESSING? DO YOU HAVE THE PROPER REFRIGARATION? WHO WILL BE PUTTING THEM TOGETHER? DO YOU HAVE THE CORRECT TOOLS. WHEN THEY ARE MADE , HOW WILL OYU STORE THEM? THEY ARE NOT THE EASIEST FLOWERS TO WORK WITH? DO YOU NOW HOW TO MASSAGE THEM TO GET A BEND OR CURVE? GOOD LUCK, YOU ARE TAKING ON TOOOO MUCH!!

Does anyone know how to preserve flowers with acrylic?
Does anyone know how to preserve flowers with acrylic? I've seen online that some companies make them where the fresh flowers are dipped in an acrylic glaze and then accented in gold, is there a way I can preserve them at home using the acrylic method (obviously without the gold accents of course) ?
Thanks for any help you can give.
Does anyone know how to preserve flowers with acrylic?
There is a product for sale in craft stores, that I believe is called Floral Elegance. It is a clear liquid acrylic that is poured into clear vases that you insert artificial flowers into it. It dries clear an looks like water. This product might also be used to preserve fresh flowers. I say MIGHT be used, because it is not it's intended purpose, and I have never done this. Another method you might use, is to dip your flowers in enough melted wax to cover the entire head. Once dipped, suspend upside down to allow the excess to drip off. Practice either of these methods on cheap flowers first. Good Luck
Reply:Hair spray. works Good.

How do I go about sending flowers to someone in the hospital?
I have a friend in the hospital who just had surgery and I wanted to send some flowers (he's a guy, but I don't know what else to send). I thought I'd order from the 1-800-flowers or somewhere like that online....what instructions do I give in order for them to be delivered to the hospital?? I've never done it before. Thanks!
How do I go about sending flowers to someone in the hospital?
Normally theres a gift shop in the hospital sweetie. Go there..... they have lotssss of flowers and chocolate and cards.
Reply:hospital name, address, room number, name of recipient.
Reply:I have worked 4 years as a florist so I will be happy to answer your question. First of all is your friend in a hospital locally? If so go to your nearest florist and pick out what you would like and have them deliver it. If it isn't local, you can still go to the local florist and they will call the florist closest to his hospital and have them sent. You can also see some arrangements such as an FTD bouquet or something that they have done and tell them you want something like that. They can tell the other florist what you want as florist try to keep a variety on hand to duplicate arrangements shown in books. Of course some flowers may not be available due to seasons like tulips. They will often do it on the spot , but sometimes not, but you will know exactly what it is going to cost for the arrangement, the delivery fee and the wire fee. You just pay the local florist and the florists work out payment amongst the two of them. They are the go between and want to make you happy too. You can order from 1-800 flowers if you wish. They will have photos of arrangements on line. You would give them info on where to deliver and pay by credit card.
Reply:The flower place will know what to do. I'm sure they've delivered there before. Just make sure you get his room number to give them. You can get that information by calling the front desk at the hospital.
You should take them in person, I'm sure he'll appreciate it even more.
You could also send one of those cookie arrangements from www.cookiesbydesign.com or some other food gift basket. Guys love food lol.

I need help with Mothers day flowers?
I want to order my mum a really nice bouquet of flowers for mothers day. I've looked at a couple of well known flower delivery sevices but they all have really traditional pink flowers and my mum hates pink, and isn't keen on traditional.
Any advice on what flowers work well together and are modern in case i have to make my own bouquet?
If anyone knows where i can find some flowers that are a bit different from the norm online i would greatly appreciate it!
I need help with Mothers day flowers?
M%26amp;S (Marks and Spencer) have some lovely contemporary bouquets online for Mothers Day. :-)
Reply:Most high street florists do Interflora, or similar delivery service. Go into one, preferably your local one, and talk to them about it. They'll advise you on colour choice and what's available. This way, your mum gets what YOU want her to have, not what SOMEONE ELSE thinks she wants to have.
I know you want to do it online, but I think you'll be better off talking to somebody...that personal touch can make all the difference. Your mum is unique, her bouquet should be too
hope this helps xx
Reply:My mama used to love it when we picked her daffodils..
Reply:One year I got my mother a rose bush for Mother's Day- Blaze, which is a very vibrant red.
As for what flowers work well together- well, that depends on your tastes and what kind of look you're trying for. A few times I've made bouquets from wisteria and a few others that grew wild where I lived.
Good luck!

Flower Girl BASKET!!!?
Hi everyone!
I have looked and looked but all of the flower girl baskets that I have found (Michael's, Hobby Lobby, Garden Ridge, online etc.) are tiny! My flower girl is 8 years old so I wanted something a little bigger. The ones that I have found are so small that only a few petals can fit into them. I really want the flower girl to have a variety of flower petal colors and to be able to throw enough to be visible.
I thought about making one, but I don't want it to look cheap or home made. Any ideas? Pictures would be perfect! Also, if you know of a bigger basket that I can purchase, please let me know!
Thanks! :-D

I got mine on Ebay and they're a little bigger than the ones at Michael's. They have fancy ones and less fancy ones. Just type in flower girl baskets and see what they have. Good luck!

Reply:Well, I collect Longaberger baskets, and they're very well made, and make great heirlooms. It would be wonderful way for the flower girl to always remember the day. You could even write on the bottom of it (or on one of the splints) your names and wedding date. They make baskets in about any shape and size you can imagine. Congrats on your marriage!

Reply:a regular basket with a silk cloth in it is very classy. anything with a handle. a little ribbon does allot. cheap does not always have to look like it. good luck and congratulations
Reply:have you thought about not using a basket...how about a cone? so cute and more formal. Plus you can have it monogrammed...here are some on ebay but i know tons of bridal stores sell them too...
Reply:Try Target or even Kohl's for great baskets. They're more suited for home decor so they're a bit larger than flower girl basets. Have you considered finding a straw handbag with short handles? Depending on how casual your wedding is, this could be a fun alternative to a basket -- and something your flower girl could keep.

This is a link to website that sells larger flower girl baskets. They have 4 pages to choose from and some are very elegant looking.
Reply:Contact your florist. They have wholesale lines that they order baskets from for all occasions. They will help you find the perfect basket. They can also decorate any basket to make it look great. Save yourself the stress and get some help from you vendors that you are already paying for.
As for the petals if your getting married in a church please make sure if you must use silk petals or if you can use naturals. I have been running into that regularly with past few weddings. Different ideas for different locations.
If you are required to use silks have your florist order them in the bulk bags. You will get a better quality of petal and the color should not bleed onto the flooring or carpet.
Good luck and blessings on your marriage!!

Reply:Every year my mother in law gets us a basket from Harry and David that has a really cool printed fabric basket liner in it. I didn't see anything on their website, but maybe you could call them and ask if they have any fabric liners in white.
Alternatively, you could buy a regular basket from a craft store and tie a large ribbon in your wedding color on the handle and you're good to go. Spray paint it if you're really into a white basket. It won't look tacky if you do it properly, that's how they make the white baskets white, they paint them. good luck
Reply:You might check at your marriage location because many don't allow the throwing of petals so you woudln't need to worry.
The flower girl thing is mostly just for show.
Buy the small basket and don't worry about such a trivial thing.
Reply:Have you tried, AC Moore? You should also check with the place you are getting married, as some places now do not allow petals to be thrown.
I would recommend maybe going to Michaels and having them make it there for you.
Reply:Stop looking at flower-girl baskets and start looking at regular baskets. Michael's has thousands of baskets. Find a size you like and line it with a white fabric and hot glue some fake roses around the outside. Better yet, have your maid of honor work with the 8 year old and they can do it together as a project.
Just be careful with those petals. They can be slippery and cause people to fall.

How can I find out what flowers and plants grow good in my area?
This is our first spring in our new house and I want to take up gardening as a hobby. However, I'm new to the idea and to the area and really don't know what to plant. I'm not interested in vegetables, just plants and flowers for landscaping. Is there an online website that you know of where I can put in my location and it tells me what does well in my region? I already know about the Arbor Day Site program but it just mostly tells trees.
How can I find out what flowers and plants grow good in my area?
Wayside gardens type in you zip code and then go to the search button and type in your zone for perrenials it is a great site with lots of plants and information good Luck!

They have become very annoying commercial with to many pop ups but its the best place on the net for garden advice that I know of.
Reply:Go with "thisbrit". The extension agent should be in your local phone book or contact your state-grant university for the number. This is a tremendous source of information regarding what to, how to, and problems in your garden and it is free.
Stay away from any of the big chain stores for advice. If the person giving the advice isn't in business for themselves it speaks volumes of their ability. Local Nurseries which cater predominately to Landscapers are great, however, they generally do not allow you to shop, browse, purchase unless you are on their list of customers.
As an aside, the county extension agent can show you how to take and analyize a soil sample for your garden. It is cheap and thorough in it's recommendations. Start smart and Good Luck.
Reply:Your area must have a county extension agent in the county town. Call them and ask to speak to a person with the garden/veggies/flower skills.
Reply:You can call or go to a local landscape company , better to go there, and ask a competant person working there, you can also probably find answers by google, you have a few options I am sure.
Reply:Many areas have Master Gardener groups. You can also check at local Nurseries and landscape businesses. A call to your local Chamber of Commerce can be of help here.
Reply:You can try this website from Homedepot:
http://plant-guide.com/HomeDepotForm.asp
Type your zone in there and choose category (ex: annual, perennial, bulbs, etc).
I think you will like it.
Reply:Go for a walk around the area you live in and take note of the plants that are growing in your neighbors gardens, if it grows there then you can surely grow them in your garden. If you don't know the name of the plants you see, I'm sure your neighbors would be more than happy to let you know and if they don't know ask if you can have a leaf or a cutting and take it to the nearest nursery for an identification. That's what I would do.
Reply:Try hgtv.com, they have all the gardening shows on video %26amp; show plans, plants for your zone %26amp; care instructions. bhg.com is another good site.

Frist of all "Congratulations" on your upcoming wedding. Best Wishes!!!
I like Carnations. They last forever and really can be tinted very pretty. I saw a wedding with carnations and roses. very pretty!!
Reply:May is the perfect time for a wedding, unless it is on Mothers Day weekend. The flower prices will almost double at that time.
So best to choose a date after that.
There are lots of flowers to choose from:
bridal pink standard tea roses
baby pink or cherry blossom pink spray roses (lots of roses on one stem)
baby pink sweetheart roses (1 rose per stem but much smaller than a standard rose)
mini carnations
alstroemeria lillies (delicate small lillies that are quite durable)
leptosporumum (a frilly elongated stem that is covered in tiny little pink flowers)
baronia (a stem which is covered in a darker pink filler flowerO
Don't forget you can also tint flowers or spray paint them (using a good quality floral spray of course)
mini cala lillies are a favorite in this area. Simply spray the back part of the lilly lightly to get the shade that you want. You can the same with cymbidium orchids, dendrobium orchids, daisies etc.
Good luck!
Reply:I too got married in May, although quite some time ago. I had great results with tulips for bouquets and peonies for centerpieces. Both are in bloom in May and, because the peonies themselves are such a large flower (about 3 + inches across), they are terrific to make simple, but lush, centerpieces with lots of greenery.
Be sure to specify light pink, as both peonies and tulips come in lots of shades or pink.

Good Luck!!!!

Reply:Ask a florist in your area, and you can probably work out a good deal with them to buy in quantity. The established ones would know the "in season flowers" for a paticular month, and would know where to get out of season flowers for you too. I would suggest either looking up the paticular flower online to be sure it suits what you have in mind, or get the florist to furnish pictures or magazines with what the flower looks like. Some give discounts on weddings also.
Congratulations!

What to get an older flower girl?
My flower girl is going to be almost 11 by the time my wedding comes around. I want to get her something for the wedding but verything I've seen online seems to be for girls around 4-7. I was thinking about going to Claires and getting a pearl jewelry set. Is that nice for an 11 year old? It's been a long time sense I was that age!
What to get an older flower girl?
Maybe get her a manicure/pedicure gift card.
Reply:Pearls would be nice, as would stud earrings in her birthstone. When I was 11, I'm not sure I would have liked pearls, but I definitely would have liked jewelry with my birthstone.
Reply:I'd go a little better than Claires and see about an engraved gold locket and chain from a jewelry store.
But if you're really on a budget - then the set from Claires is fine.
Or pretty hair barrettes etc. would be nice too.
And some "grown-up" perfume - nothing stuffy but something pretty and floral - but definitely from the "grown-up" counter.
Reply:Well 10 yrs. has passed since I was that age but, I do remember that when I was that age, I loved Claires, so I think anything you get from there would be perfect for her.
Reply:get her a locket saying thank you for being part of our special day and have her name engraved on it ( it will be something for her birthday as well as a gift from your wedding something she can cherish forever
Reply:I wouldn't get her pearls. Most 11 year olds don't like pearls. Plus, fake pearls peel and discolor easily. I think a jewelry set would be nice though and maybe a jewelry box. Good luck.
Reply:First of all, stop referring to her as an 'older' flower girl. She just IS the flower girl. It's lovely to have someone that age! Flower girls always used to be from ages 8 to 12!
The pearl set is nice. Another option would be a locket.
Reply:I don't know how into jewelry they are at 11, maybe a gift certificate to the mall so she can get something she wants.
Reply:When I was eleven I was ALL ABOUT stuff at Claries. That's always a good choice. Otherwise, just think of something she really enjoys and go with that, just like with any other present.
I wasn't a flower girl, but when my sister got married she gave all of her bridesmaids but me a hot pink purse. She knew good and well that I'd never carry a hot pink purse, so she got me a nice leatherbound copy of Wuthering Heights... Totally me. : D
Reply:I'd ask her mother or father for idea's as well, but the pearls sound nice!
Reply:yes i think she would really like any kind of jewelry
Reply:yes pearls is fine
Reply:Its your wedding and if you want to have a 95 year old flower girl its your business. I think that this 11 year old will do a great job.
Make sure to take alot of pretty pictures :)
Reply:any kind of jewellary and shell be happy xD
Reply:Sounds like a good idea to me.
Reply:yes
Reply:That sounds like a good gift to me.
Reply:I was thinking pearls before I even read your idea. A nice pair of pearl earrings would be nice. I loved mine when I was younger.
Reply:i wouldn't get her any cheap jewelry from clairres. many jewelry stores have real pearls for younger girls. you want it to be something that she can have forever, not something that she will think is cheap in a few years.
Reply:I think that would be very nice....Then she will have jewelry to wear on the big day.
Reply:My best friend was married last weekend and her "junior Bridesmaid" (older flower girl basically) got simple jewlery from Claire's. She was very happy with it!
It is a perfect idea!
Reply:I think that would be nice
Reply:That sounds very appropriate to me. Go for it.
Reply:I think a jewelry set would be wonderful! Matching necklace/bracelet or earrings if she has pierced ears ( I never did like clip-ons as a younger kid).
Reply:What kind of girl is she? I would have hated that. I was a complete tomboy though.
I would have much rather had something sports related. A new soccer ball or a gift card to a sports store for some new cleats would have been great.
My flower girl was also older. She was 10 at my wedding but very girlie. I got her the same thing I got the bridesmaids--jewelry. She has quite a collection of nice expensive jewelry now and she's only 12 now.
Some 11 year olds are all about video games and a new Wii game would be the perfect gift. Even though its not a standard "wedding thank you gift"--it should be personal. It should be a thank you gift to her for being in the wedding, so definitely pick something that she would personally think showed your gratitude. If you don't know, ask her parents what she is into.
Reply:Yes, or you can go to a jewlery store and get a locket. They love that kind of stuff. What about a purse. My 7, 9, and 13 year old love purses.
Good luck
Reply:If you have time to do this, I suggest going to Claires with her with a price limit and have her pick something out. It would be a fun bonding experience and she would get something she likes.
BTW, I agree with Mrs. S's comments about the pearls.

Reply:There are five books in this series and they are all good. The movie on the other hand was awful and I do not recomend that you see it. They shoved two of the books together in the movie and they got it all wrong. Half of the stuff in the movie doesn't happen until the second and third books. I am hoping that someday they will make a better film and maybe do the whole series. You should check out the series Heaven also by V.C. Andrews. Fantastic!

I'm especially interested in "fun prints" like cartoon prints and a variety of random hobby/subject fabrics. (I.e. not flowers!)

I found a Versace purse that had exotic designs to it and it was teal, and sort of small. It was pretty and stuff, and sort of likie this one: http://www.armcandygirl.com/wp-content/v... I know it had the dots, but there wasn't flowers and the color was teal, not green, some other design instead of those flowers. Please help me find it! I want it really bad.

Question about Poinsettia (Christmas Flower) ...?
What are the therapeutic (clinical) effects and mechanism of action of Poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima)... which is also known as Christmas Flower ... I've tried looking online but I prefer a detailed answer from a scientist or a botanist ... Thank You and Happy New Year ...
Question about Poinsettia (Christmas Flower) ...?
The cultivated poinsettia ( Euphorbia pulcherrima ) is neither poisonous nor has it any medical use, it`s a beauty only.
The latex of wild (!!!) variety contains not too strong poisonous diterpene esters. Eating parts of plant effects abdominal pain where vomiting and diarrhea can occur. Frequent contact with the skin effects redness, swelling, blisters after some delay. A specific antidote is not known.
Its origin goes back to Mexico, where the Indians used the red bracts ( containing anthocyanins ) as a dye and the processed latex against fever.
More about the story it should be poisonous and further
infos are to find in the sources.
Reply:pioisonus
Reply:If you prefer an answer from a scientist or botanist, why as us?
Reply:The poinsettia is a toxic flower, so don't let it be eaten by children or pets. Not a scientist but I have enjoyed raising the flowers.
Reply:well, all i can tell you... don't try to eat it.. it is poisonous and it will kill ya or make you very sick..

Help me identify this plant - pictures online?
I made the mistake of direct planting mixed "perennial garden" and "daisy garden" seed packs in an area that I cleared out this winter. (in the future I will start mixed seeds in a controlled environment, for the sake of seedling identification) Most weeds (I think) I have been able to identify, and I am faithfully watering and caring for the remaining plants. However, there is one that I am afraid may be a weed, it's growing fairly large, right now it's about 24". The stem has narrow vertical 'ridges' on it. The leaves are fairly large, and it's just gotten small white flowers. If anyone can help identify this plant, I'd appreciate it!

What is this flower??
I live in Southern California, and I keep seeing this flower along the freeways, sometimes in people's yards, sometimes just out and about. I cannot find it anywhere online when I search for "Southern California wildflowers" "shrubs + blue flowers" "bushes + blue flowers" etc. I would love to put this plant in my yard, but I have no idea what it's called and where I would find it - not wanting to take clippings from other people's yards, and figuring it wouldn't be safe to try and get one off the freeway. Here's a link to some pics I took:

Flower in hair on wedding day?
This is a little poll... if you wore a flower for your wedding, was it real or silk?
Would silk look cheap? Know any online stores that sell nice flower clips?
Thanks!
Flower in hair on wedding day?
I know many people on here think silk flowers look cheap. I asked about silk flowers once and I got about 40 answers all but about 6 said silk flowers are tacky. A great deal of our budget is going to floral decoration because of our wedding theme. We both have bad allergies and are getting silk. Although having our eyes red and swollen would make for some interesting photos LOL but no..
I say silk. Due to my allergies and what someone else saying about it dying and withering before the ceremony.
I'm searching for a site for you now.
The clips on this site are really pretty:
http://store.latebloomerboutique.com/
Reply:I used silk flowers for my wedding (except the flowers in the church), including my bouquet. If you get a high quality flower they look great. My flowers were as expensive as some people's real ones.
My friend wore a flower in her hair for her wedding and she looked beautiful. Her's was real.
Reply:For your hair, use silk. You don't want to have to worry about damaging it every time you or someone else touches your hair.
Reply:I'm wearing a single, realistic silk flower. It doesn't look cheap.
Go to Claire's. They have really good ones.
Reply:I'm thinking about wearing flowers but i'm gonna do silk only because a real one might die by the time we get to the reception. But I know a real flower would look alot nicer.

Best wild flowers for the edge of woods?
I want to buy some flower seeds to throw out at the edge of the woods on our property. I'm thinking I might like a seed mix where flowers bloom at different times during the year. I need something that is easy to plant since I want to cover a large area so throwing out some seeds would work out well.
My hobby is digital photography so I would like to plant something that is eye appealing and that attracts butterfilies, bees, etc.
Also, where can I find a good deal on flower seeds? Do I purchased these online or local?
I am located in northern Alabama.
Thanks for the help!
Best wild flowers for the edge of woods?
I have, in general, found that tossing seeds in areas results in feeding the ants, birds, and so on... I presume... because I rarely see plants. It would be a waste of money. The only time I have had success is when I had heaping amounts of wild flower seed, harvested from daisies and black eyed susans and the like, and scattered them in a waste area. I did get flowers from that, but I would suspect that one in 100 seeds sprouted. Which is why they make so many!!!
You'd do better getting plants or growing them in the spring in little pots and planting them out. You can OFTEN get divisions of plants from friends and neighbors and family. If you want buy seeds, take a look at Wildseed Farms catalog, which is in fact recommended by the Alabama Wildflower Advisory. Both links are in Sources.
If you purchase flowers, take a look at the Wildseed Farms catalog as a reference. It has a ton and a half of info, and these wilder flowers are great for woodland edges.
Enjoy!
Reply:a butterfly bush!! i have one in my backyard.. in about three days, butterflies will be all over it.. theyre purple- the bush, i mean lol..
good luck!!
you can get them online or at a store..
Reply:You want to determine how much sun your plants are going to get. I would suggest a part sun or shade perennial mix. Perennials will come back every year. Throwing out seeds may not work well as birds may eat the seeds. You might want to try laying out the seeds then covering them with a thin layer of hay and chicken wire (to keep the hay in place) so the seeds stay where they are suppose to. My hobby is photography as well! Good Luck!

Reply:I would go with something bright. Depending on when your wedding is. Maybe a orange.
Reply:your color is very neutral.. so i would do something BRIGHT so they dont' disappear doing down the aisle. Reds, yellow, oranges, even purples would work here. Reply:Very pretty dresses and an elegant color. The flower color should be rich. Deep red or burgundy colored tea roses would be very beautiful, but I think orchids arranged in a small cascading piece would be perfect. Orchids come in a huge variety of colors and sizes. Just stay with rich tones like burgundy, deep purple and dark red to set off the color and style of the dresses. Beautiful!
